What to Expect:
Interns are placed into either Safety Management Systems or Operations Safety Programs:
- Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Data - SMS guides our day-to-day operation to ensure we follow safety compliance, and safety standards and proactively identify hazards and risks. It is in place to help us guard against injuries, incidents, and accidents. Every employee plays a vital role in managing safety through our SMS, including our CEO and leadership team.
Additionally, the intern will support Operations Safety on various initiatives such as:
- Analyze safety data in support of cross-divisional safety projects, such as our United Safety Hub project , an effort to transition to a modern and fully integrated Safety system, developing enhancements to existing safety frameworks and helping set new standards for our SMS program, partnering with teams to work through Safety metadata, and many other SMS and related data projects.
A mentor will be assigned to everyone for personalized assistance and development. United values diverse experiences, and perspectives. We encourage everyone who meets the minimum qualifications to apply.
No Direct Path: This internship is designed solely to provide you with skill development and valuable work experience. This role will likely not convert to a full-time position at United at the conclusion of the internship.
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Current undergraduate students demonstrating strong academic performance
- Track record of outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others
- Ability to apply quantitative skills and discernment to the airline industry
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now and in the future
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
- Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
Posting dates: January 16, 2026 through January 23, 2026
The starting rate for this role is $21.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education and skills. This position may also be eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
