UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION (BL-VPUE-IUBLA)Department Information
The Office of Undergraduate Education (UE) at Indiana University (IU) Bloomington supports more than 20 programs and initiatives that enhance student success, teaching excellence, and community engagement. These include the Advance College Project, First-Year Seminars, Precollege Programs, and Experiential Learning - 1 of the university's major priorities in the IU 2030 strategic plan.
Job Summary
The Communications Intern will work closely with the Experiential Learning (EL) team to help share stories and opportunities that highlight IU's commitment to hands-on learning. This position offers a unique opportunity for a creative student, preferably from The Media School or a related communications field, to gain professional experience in digital marketing, content creation, and storytelling within a collaborative, supportive university environment. Working as part of the Undergraduate Education Communications and Marketing team, the intern will produce engaging copy, visuals, and social media content that showcase the impact of experiential learning at IU.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Write and edit copy for websites, newsletters, social media, and print materials.
- Create and manage social media campaigns for the Experiential Learning initiative.
- Capture and edit photos for marketing materials, digital platforms, and events.
- Gather and develop student stories and testimonials to highlight EL experiences.
- Design promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Collaborate with communications and Experiential Learning staff to brainstorm and plan content.
- Maintain brand consistency and alignment with IU style and visual identity.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University in good academic standing
- Enrolled in The Media School, journalism, communications, or marketing program
Required
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail
- Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Experience with social media platforms and content creation (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Ability to take and edit photos
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with short-form video creation (Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts)
- Interest in higher education, student success, or experiential learning
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour
Work Hours
10 - 15 hours per week.
