Qualifications:
1. In progress Educational Specialist degree or Doctorate in School Psychology.
2. Eligible for a Colorado Department of Education Intern Authorization - LINK.
3. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate.
Job Goals:
1. To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self and by addressing psychological, behavioral and/or mental health difficulties through prevention, direct service, evaluation, and consultation.
2. Identify psychologically, educationally, and socially exceptional children and help make recommendations for appropriate services.
3. Utilize specialized knowledge and skills to increase the skill sets of staff and colleagues through consultation and professional development.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Use formal and informal assessment data about the student and his/her environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs. Implement interventions and programs with students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment.
2. Screen and evaluate referred students including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observing, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations. Identify and assess the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as the environmental factors that affect learning.
3. Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the student's educational plan.
4. Provide direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. individual counseling, group counseling, classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-services to staff/parents, etc.).
5. Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student's program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
6. Deliver a planned and coordinated program of psychological services.
7. Develop and maintain appropriate records and reports related to students and interventions/programs.
8. Assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning.
9. Participate in professional organizations, continuing education, and in-services to continually improve professional knowledge and skill.
10. Develop and monitor behavior plans and implement positive behavior support strategies.
11. Participate as active member of mental health team as well as on one or more district team including the Behavior, Evaluation, and Support Team (BEST), Autism Team, and Crisis Response Team.
Salary: (This position offers medical and leave benefits.)
School Pyschologist Interns are on the Special Services Provider Salary Schedule and is based upon years of experience.
