Our Summer Internship program is designed to provide students with a valuable combination of on-the-job training and off-the-job learning opportunities. As an intern, you will work on meaningful projects, participate in industry-relevant training, and build connections through social and networking events. About the Role:
As an Underwriting Intern, you will explore how Swiss Re evaluates and manages risk within one of our core business areas. You will gain exposure to our underwriting practices and collaborate with professionals across the organization. Depending on your placement, you may work in Property and Casualty (P&C) Reinsurance, Life and Health (L&H) Reinsurance, or Corporate Solutions (CorSo) - Swiss Re's commercial insurance arm. This internship will help you build the skills and knowledge to explore a future career in underwriting.
Key responsibilities:
- Learn how underwriters assess and price risks
- Contribute to research and portfolio analysis
- Ensure underwriting decisions are backed by accurate data and insights
- Collaborate with teams across actuarial, claims, finance, and more
- Participate in training sessions and networking events
About the Team:
You will join a collaborative underwriting community that values curiosity, teamwork, and early talent development. You will be supported by professionals who are passionate about mentoring and sharing their expertise, and you will be encouraged to explore different areas of underwriting to find your fit.
About You:
You are a motivated student who enjoys solving problems and working with data. You are curious about the (re)insurance industry and ready to learn in a fast paced, global environment.
We are looking for:
- Students currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Detail oriented and collaborative
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office; experience with SQL, Python, R, or Power BI is a plus
The internship base salary will be $20-$30 per hour, depending on location, qualifications, projected graduation year and/or highest degree held.
