Description
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (District) offers an excellent opportunity for emerging professionals to support full-time staff in the Watercourse section of the Technical Services Division. Interns will assist with a variety of watercourse maintenance tasks and contribute to the District’s ongoing land and water stewardship efforts.
Interns will gain experience in:
- Land stewardship practices and general landscaping procedures.
- Basic equipment care and maintenance.
- Long-term land management strategies.
- Project management and professional communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will support field operations within the Watercourse Maintenance Program. Responsibilities include hands-on tasks such as routine maintenance of turf and natural vegetated areas, tree and brush removal, debris and garbage cleanup, and the removal of woody vegetation and invasive (plant) species. Interns will work alongside experienced staff to ensure safe, effective, and environmentally responsible maintenance of District-managed watercourse areas.
Requirements
Applicants should be pursuing a degree in landscaping, water resources, environmental sciences, or a closely related field. Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in outdoor fieldwork and possess effective, timely communication skills. Familiarity with native plant communities is preferred. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required at the time of application, throughout the selection process, and for the duration of the internship.
Supplemental Information:
This 12-week summer internship is full – time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M – 4:00 P.M.
