Description
OverviewThe Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly. The CMA/RMA/MA will also be in chart of prior authorizations. The employee is responsible for identifying prior auth requirements by insurance/payer and processes and completes prior authorizations for scheduled and add on services. Determines if services are a covered benefit and documents prior auth information in Epic. Communicates with provider and nurse if services were approved or denied. Facilitates peer to peer reviews when needed.

- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), American Allied Health (AAH)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days
- High School Diploma or GED
Responsibilities
- Room patients by collecting pertinent information related to the chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation.
- Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities following department policies and procedures.
- Gather, document, and maintain patient information through telephone interactions.
- Perform administrative duties, including patient check-in/check-out, prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, insurance benefit verification, and coordination of referrals and testing.
- Schedule patient appointments within the department.
- Obtain comprehensive family histories and develop patient pedigrees.
- Assist nursing staff with patient treatments and laboratory procedures.
- Support patients with completing and processing required forms.
- Collaborate closely with providers and nursing staff to deliver team-based patient care.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
